It can be quite confusing to understand exactly what a healthy balanced meal is in its simplest form, due to mixed messages within the media and confusing product advertising.
When planning and portioning meals UK Dietitians and Nutritionists recommend the use of the ‘Eatwell Guide’. The Eatwell Guide is a brilliant representation of what should be included in a balanced diet over a day/ week. However I often found myself explaining to patients that this should not all be consumed in one sitting and would often draw out on a piece of paper how their meal should look. After drawing this many times I decided to bring the drawing to life with the ‘Healthy Balance Plate’ a representation that simply shows what should be included in a meal.
